Can I sell items on ebay to raise the bankruptcy fee or would they frown on this? I am talking things that are worth about £20 or £30 - old baby items no longer needed etc

Sorry, I didn't see this last night.

I never got an NT code as I went BR on 29th March and as the new tax year started on 6th April there wasn't enough time to implement it - quite convenient really!

It seems a bit strange when we are told that if we want Sky, gym membership etc then it has to come out of our surplus!

I'm discharged now, and I'm not going to ask for it to be reassessed for the sake of £13, I'll have to see what everything goes up by next year!

Hi Skippy

I totally agree with you, it seems really weird how they work it out.
I will make sure that i use cash for most of my xmas presies purchases then.

Julian, surely what someone does with their surplus is up to them? If they have claimed £15 for Christmas, but up it too £30 by saving some of their surplus the OR couldn't tell them it was wrong?

On that score I should have my IPA reassessed - I was allowed £30 for car insurance and it's actually £43 so I'm paying the balance from my surplus as I thought it's up to me what I do with it.

I have not been told yet if we were allowed anything for the kids, but i do get to keep the DLA and the CB, so my argument is it comes out of that as its for the children.
What do you think, obviously within reason.

Hi when you say TRACABLE payments till discharged, then how about if you still have the IPA thing as i have mentioned on my other post, after you are discharged what you do with your money is yours is that right.
If you had the NT code then it ends, then your discharged can they start the repayments again if your income changes as i thought after discharge unless you have a proper income related IPA then thats it for the IPA side of things and the OR looking at getting anymore from you. But like i said that is unless you are paying something out of your DI up until discharge which will then last the years from the date it started.

Hi Jo,

A tricky one. It depends on what your OR agrees for your expenditure. If you've just put £15 for Christmas and end up spending considerably more, it's possible the OR could question the validity of your exprnditure claim. My advice it to keep "traceable" payments to a minimum whilst undischarged.

Julian,
U missed my question.
Is that £100 per item or a maximum purchase as i like to get bargains at Christmas for the kids as some things on there are cheaper than the high street.
Thanks

Hi Maizie,

As you were effectively "brokering" the transaction and it was carried out with someone else's money (proveable), you will be fine.

I bought something off ebay for £185 two weeks before my bankruptcy and it went through my bank account. It was something my father wanted and he transferred the cash into my account the day before to cover it. Hope thats ok?

Also a couple of other things, two transactions of approximately £50, trainers for my boyfriend but he gave me the cash for them.. would that be ok?

Thats ok then, my mobile broke and so i got one for £70. Oh is that £100 per item or for all transactions. As i tend to look for bargains at christmas as it can be cheaper than the high st and want to get the kids some stuff on there.
Thanks again

Hi Jo,

Indeed you can, but I would advise against acquiring anything of real value until your discharge (preferably less than £100).
