Hi All,

A family member of mine has gone to work abroad for the next 2 years. He owns a car, and rather than sell it before he went, he put it into my name, so that I could take care of getting it put on SORN, MOT etc etc so that its all ready when he comes back -

As this car is in my name, is the OR going to see it as mine? I have my car, my wife has a company car - so it clearly isnt needed by us - but should I get it transferred into someone elses name now?

Can you get a letter from your friend to say if they do or dont want it.

The OR should not dispose of it if the owner your friend says they want it.

Do you want to keep it.

If so make sure you add that in on the form and also when you have your interview, if not the OR will take it to release monies for your creditors.

Hi, the car is worth probably no more than £800 - I know the OR would generally not even be interested in a veichle of that value, but we, on paper, have no need for it.

Ill ask to transfer it to someone else to be on the safe side - and still expain to the OR

One of the standard checks the OR does is check with the DVLA if you are registered keeper of any vehicles. I am not sure how far back they go.

Here here Pix,
What ever you do you will need to explain it to the OR otherwise it could like you were trying to hide something and that in itself can isntigate a BRU/BRO.

Good luck

One thing you could do is liaise with the man who went abroad and arrange to transfer it into the name of somone else he can trust to look after it. Preferably this soohuld not be anyone finacially associated with you. Of course, you should notify the OR by letter of the whole thing.

Hi Darren,

The original owner would be able to prove somehow that it was there money that paid for the car.

I would not worry too much.

Out of interest how much is it worth?

I think as you don't own it (you're only the current keeper), it shouldn't be a problem?

One of the experts should be along soon.
