Hi All - Happy New Year

We are in the process of implimenting our BR - stage one was to move house into rented accomadation and send the keys of our old home back to the mortgage lender - this is now done.

Stage 2 is to open a new account for our DD's and standing orders etc before we go BR.I'm currentley 8K overdrawn in my current bank account.

3 questions if I may...1) I read that the COOP cashminder is good - however we are in Wales and there aren't any branches! - can any one offer good alternatives?

2)As we are 3 months in arrears with our mortgage will this have an adverse affect on us opening an account?

3) What happens to such accounts when we go BR (lets assume there is no balance when we go BR) can we use them for salary and bills post BR or do we have to open yet another account?

Cheers

Tim

Hi,

Sorry to confuse - as we are not BR yet I've applied for a standard current account with no overdraft - I'll switch to a cashminder once we are BR and as you say you can't apply online fo rthe cashminder.

Cheers

Hi there i also was unaware that you could apply for the Cashminder account online, the last i heard that to apply it had to be in person at the branch or on the phone.

Maybe they have changed it.

Hello

I think you can only apply over the phone or in branch for the coop cashminder account.

When you are opening the account, you could make them aware that you are going to be declaring br soon. I am sure you will get the response we all have when telling them - and that is "that is not a problem"

They dont usually freeze the accounts

Good luck

Jenny

Onwards and Upwards is the way im going :-0)

From "Moneyworries" to "Movin On" in 3 months is fantastic :-))

xx

Hi All,

Thanks for the advise - I'll log onto the COOP website and apply.

What happens when we go BR - if we get a COOP account - does this get frozen or can we carry on using it?

Cheers

Mr E Guest

I have the coop account and my branch is 40 miles away, i use the internet for my banking and also the post office to pay money in.

I have not experienced any problems using the account seeing as there is not one nearby, far from it. I like the internet access and my credit rating was bad and the coop accepted me.

I would say they are your best bet, unless you feel you need to actually go to the branch for your banking then the coop are just the ticket.

You can pay money in using the post office and the main account is infact very similar to a normal account but without the debit card only electron and no cheque book or overdraft which we are not allowed anyhow.

Best of luck

I would also add that banking for Co-op can be done at any post office, paying in cash/cheques etc and paying bills.

Hi,

There are quite a few branches in the South Wales area. Are those no good for you, there is also a phone number on their website.
