I actually opened mine with Abbey, but I understand they are no longer offering accounts to undischarged bankrupts. It seems to go in cycles, but it is in the Bankers Code that everyone is entitled to a bank account, so try a few!

Nationwide no longer offer accounts to undischarged bankrupts, and I've now heard that someone who had been discharged for a while was turned down for an account.

Tomorrow is a mystery, yesterday is history, today is the present, a gift to make the most of.

Hi Mattdjuk,

I would recommend getting a "basic" account from one of the high street banks such as Co-Op or Nationwide. This will give you your direct debit and standing orders with no charge, but only a cashpoint card. There are many pre-pay cards out there for circa £5 a month should you still require a card facility.

hi there !! go to "say no to 0870"there is a phone number there for thinkbanking, its a good account as you dont get charged fot any thing other than the monthly fee and it helps keep your money organised but it takes ages to get through on phone!!

Hi Matt

I'm with Think banking. Its an RBS account run by according to the small print Gregory Pennington (will have to recheck that part)

They issue you with two accounts A and B, A is the salaries account where your money is paid into and your D/Ds go out of, No late charges or missed payments as they take the money before the payment to pay it, the B account is your card account, they put the remainder of your money (after bills and monthly fee) onto the card which is a Maestro card. You get a text from them when any money is put into and onto your account and card. You can also text them for your balance, if you get free texts they give you a mobile number to use aswell as the normal number.

You have to pay £25 as a one of payment and £12.50 monthly fee that is taken from the 1st payment recieved by them. If you opt for a second card you pay £30 one off payment and £17.50 a month fees.

The other plus side to Think is that they Guarentee you a bank account even if you have been refused every where else.

Hope this helps

I wasn't impressed with the service level - it takes ages to get through to them (0870 number if I remember rightly), they have no internet banking and you can't get a balance from the cashpoint. I thought this was very poor for £12.50.

Hi Matt

seems quite usual for the COOP to refer so I am quite confident that it will be OK in a couple of days

Matt

Have a look at some of the other pre-paid cards on moneysupermarket. There are a few that don't charge for paying wages in and debits out - might work out cheaper - some have an anuual fee and no monthly fee so shop around!!

It will cost you £12.50 per month for the privilege of using this account, but a lot of posters on the iva.co.uk site have used the account so it might be worthwhile posting on that site to get some feedback.

For an informal chat about any financial difficulties, or advice as to the options available, I can be contacted via my website - www.melaniegiles.com
