I know this has been posted before by someone else but I need something clarifying. I am possibly getting some inheritance money within the next couple of months, may be £100, maybe £1,000 who knows!
Anyway, I am in an IPA, but currently not paying because work have reduced my hours and I have been suffering from depression. I was discharged in March this year, my auntie passed away in April.
Should I declare this to the OR?

As I posted on the other thread, yes they could re-open the file, but wouldn't want to do so.

i thought from previous thread that if it was an ED from BR they could still reactivate file.

a windfall such as an inheritance or lottery win after ischarge is your money regardless of whether you are in an IPA or not.. IPAs are for income not windfalls
as your aunt died after discharge (sorry about your aunt) if she left you the whole estate it would be yours to do what you want with it

As far as I'm aware, if someone dies after you are discharged and you get an inheritance you don't need to declare it to the OR.

when you say discharged from BR end of march was that early discharge or end of whole year ?
you are in an IPA, missed some payments so they may say that this money may have to cover arrears.
If it is a significant windfall the OR may want it to give the money to your creditors.
with you currently not earning the same amount your income and expenditure should have changed contact the company managing your IPA.
If it is a small amount, some on this forum have contacted the OR with mixed results, some have elected not to declare this is one of those areas that is down to your own conscions (cant spell for toffee today).
forget your aunts money If your nan took you shopping and paid for your groceries out of her money just because she loved you and wanted to give you a boost, what would you and the OR think ? |

Unfortunately she didn't make a will so the money will go to next of kin which is my nan. I lived with my auntie and she kind of was like a mum to me so my nan has said she will give me some money as my auntie would have wanted that.
My discharge was March, Auntie died on April 29th, we didn't know it was coming, rushed to hospital on the Monday, died on the Wednesday.

sorry maizie to hear about your aunt.
The will and certificate of death would have been sent to the probate office, so in effect it is a public document.
I think that the thread on previous submission was if you were notified of the death during your BR, the money had to be declared to the OR
