hi all, this is probably more aimed at people who have gone through bankruptcy rather than just entering it but all responses would be good, did BR change you as a person? and do you think the changes, if any, are perminant? speaking for myself i dont get attached to things/ people anymore, im alot more wary of spending cash now, infact since my BR (jan 09) ive had afew short term relationships and as soon as i get a hint of they love money i end it, i just thought id post and find out if its just me or if afew of us feel like this!! quick example, i was seeing a girl and when we used to go out for quick drink i used to pay but she would always offer then as weeks turned into months she didnt offer anymore and afew drinks turned into drinks and food, still no offer to go halfs, didnt last long after that, but is that me being mean or has BR changed me??? i was never like this before BR (could be a reason i went under)!!

I agree as well - my furniture has to look nice!

Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn, and cauldron bubble.

Going BR has changed me - I still want nice things, but I appreciate I can't always have them now. I would warn against losing it with family and friends over money - I've found out that sometimes you might need their help.

Regarding things like furniture, I have to say that if I could afford it I would probably have gone for the £90 table if I could afford it. If I've got to look at something I like it to be nice!

Only when the last tree has died, the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realise that we cannot eat money.

Last IPA payment made on 28th June 2010 - it's over at last!

I have definately changed too since BR in July 2010. The feeling of not having debts anymore is the best feeling ever and I am never going down that route again.
I agree it does change how you think about money and I am careful now and think about whether I really need something or just want it and weigh up whether I can justify it. Still not a great saver but whereas before I would just buy everything willy-nilly I now really consider what I'm buying. Yesterday my washing machine died and hubby said we would need to buy a new one, normally I would have jumped at the chance to get a new machine but I really didn't want to spend the money. I tried everything to try to sort our machine out but had to admit defeat in the end and bought a new one. Normally would have gone for the best I could but found myself really hunting for a bargain.
Think you need to find a balance though. Yep table is just a table and yes £90 is a decent amount of money but you will live with that table for a while so make sure it is what you want and that you at least like it.

Went Br 20th July 2010..countdown for 1 year.

even today i went to my mums for dinner and was saying about this table and chairs im watching on ebay, she looked at it as did my sister, grandma and dad, they all said ugly table that, but its a tenner i said, they said some nice ones here for 90 quid, as if 90 quid is nothing, i got mad, shouted and left, i dont see this as been tight i see it as i need a dining table, not to win a dining table contest with but to sit at it and eat!!!
