Dear Forum

I am considering petitioning for my own BR. I live in rented shared accommodation and my housemate is worried about the effect my BR might have on him. Is there anything at all for him to be worried about???

Hi John!

Thanks for your reply!

I have now just signed up to a site clled 'Check My File' who for £14.95 allow you access to all 3 UK Credit Reference Agencies. Seems not a bad deal really.

According to my Files, I have no one 'Financially Associated' to me - so I take it that my housemate will be ok then after all?

Also, I have quite a good Credit Rating too and all my Accounts are looking healthy, which was quite a surprise - obviously the Creditors have not been in contact yet then!!!

Cheers.

Ok I will do that! Thanks!

Yes you could do it that way.
Google "Experian" or "Equifax" if you look at their sites it explains how to obtain your credit report.
On receipt you can check the report. If there's no link, great.
If there is, return a copy of the report stating which entry is showing the link and ask for the disassociation, explain there should be no link between you.

Assisting where I can.

Hi!

To save my housemate the trouble of doing this, would I be able to check for this on my credit file also?

How would I go about doing this please?

Hi Dazed and Confused,

Get your housemate to check his/her credit file to see if you are financially linked in any way (sometimes you get linked if it's a joint tennancy). If not, great! If so, you can file a Notice of Disassociation.

Is that for sure?

Hi

No not really, a little while ago maybee but now searches are done on an individual and not the address, so it shouldnt show on his credit file!
