We were declared BR on 8 Jan and I have just renewed my car insurance. I am supposed to tell them that I am now BR. If so am I to tell other companies that I have direct debits with for Home ins, phone etc???
You should check your insurance policies as some car/home insurance polices do have a BR clause.
You are only obliged to tell companies that you are BR if you are applying for credit of £500 or more or if you are asked. Some companies will continue to insure you but won't let you pay by DD.
I was caught out on this one... Aviva (Norwich Union) cancelled my insurance without telling me, they now state that it was a computer error and the policy should not have been cancelled. if i do not believe the argument that it was a computer error, the only information they had received was that my wife had gone BR and she was only a named driver on the policy
They did on renewal date put the policy upto £505 (from £265). they did the same for houshold insurance massive hike bye bye green army
check the small print on each motor insurance document some companies are BR friendly. I have now informed my policy providers that i am BR and it has not been a problem.
some insurance companies will use any excuse NOT to pay a claim, so for the price of a phone call and a few minutes on the phone it may be worth your time in the long run.
