Hi all, please help if you can,
I charge VAT on my invoices for services provided, I will be going BR very soon, should I carry on charging clients VAT, will VAT that I will have to pay be written off? Will this affect my clients? (I'm now sole trader).
Thank you |

sorry blair
not a clue, might be one to email one of the experts direct
it is a very busy time of year for them (the experts) as lots of people wishing to go BR before year end and before BR fees are increased

you will need to de register for VAT as effectiveky your business after Br is new.
You may also find it difficult to get HMRC to accept your application to become VAT registered because in reality it is a credit line - you collect on behalf of HMRC - so worth talking to them first

Thank you for your reply Paul, I know you are probably very busy. Do you know whether I should carry on charging VAT as normal until I'm bankrupt? |

Hi Blair
Richard again, as Paul has made contact on your thread, it might make sense to email him direct
he and his team are able to help with restructuring and looking at business both before and after BR
good luck Richard |

Blair i would humbly suggest you talk to Paul there is no cost to you whilst just picking his brains over the phone and he is very good at his job Paul has a way of finding the funds for Reviva Fees from places you would not have thought of but thats only if you want them to help you, until that point help and advice is free

Hi Blair,
I would say so - until you are BR and/or until the end of a trading 1/4 - if you are going to de-register as a VAT reistered business.
I suggest that you seek some independent advice at this stage as the HMRC have megga powers...
Good luck and I suggest Paul at reviva or melanie at Jones Giles - they will talk you through your options, then you decide what steps to take.
