How long after you are made bankrupt, is it advertised in the local press? Is it before or after you see/speak to the OR?

You will appear on the Insolvency Register the day after you are declared BR as the Register is updated at midnight each day. I appeared in the London Gazette on the Friday after being declared BR on the Tuesday. I am not sure if the Gazette is only updated on a Friday or every day.

You won't appear in your local paper unless the OR thinks you haven't been completely honest and there are more creditors than you have listed in your SOA so don't worry about people seeing your name in the local paper.

The gazette is published every week day (or at least it used to be) but obviously there will be a delay between the notice being sent for publication and it actually being published

I have a question about this...

I have disapeared from the insolvency register, as i was discharged in August, but i have noticed, that if i search in the London Gazette, using my name....all the details of my bankruptcy appear, including address.

So, if i can find it...so can anyone else. I wonder if this will still be a problem in the future??

Your details will be available on the London Gazette website forever and a day I'm afraid.

The way I look at it is I hadn't heard of the London Gazette before I went BR, so the chances are that most other people haven't.

I'm sure it won't cause too many problems.

Only when the last tree has died, the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realise that we cannot eat money.

you are right, about Joe public...but it means that we never quite shake it off..

But maybe any prospective future creditor or landlord can look...even after you have `served your time`.

Not a bad thing for me, i guess, cos if i don`t have the cash...i`m not gonna buy it!.

As skippy says, most people don't even know the London Gazette exists, never mind use it as a search tool.

If someone does a credit search they would usually go to Experian etc, so I would just make sure their files on you are correct and up to date.

It is sometimes difficult to shake off your past, but all you can do is make sure your present is up to date (if that makes sense!)

Don't forget that it will be on your credit record for 6 years from the date of the BR.

Hi Jane

You certainly will have appeared in the London Gazette and maybe Stubbs Gazette.

You will also have appeared on the IS website whilst you were BR - you will have "left" that site about 2/3 months are discharge

The likelehood of you appearing in your local press is probably NIL

Hi jane, in 2007 you will have appeared in a local paper, depending on the area it may not have been the one you buy, it is done by a national firm so sometimes the areas are a little out

If I just search by my name in the London Gazette then I don't find anything for some reason. But if I enter my name and postcode then I appear. I've no idea why I would need to enter my postcode to find my entry but that just seems to be the way it is.

I must be searching wrongly then, I cannot find it at all, seems to be just recent 2010 notices on there

regarding the local paper, a relative of mine went bankrupt at the same court just before me and he was in our local paper so not sure what happened with mine

My name doesn't come up in the usual search, you need to look in the archived section.
