I have read on the national debtline website that when you declare yourself bankrupt your name is not published in your local paper anymore just the London gazette, it said a new law had come into place and says your name would only go in your local paper if there was any fraud involved.
Can anyone clarify this is correct or not
Thank you

This is correct however your details can be published in the local paper if the OR wishes. The only times I can imagine this would happen is for business BRs or if the OR believes you haven't been completely honest and there may be more creditors than you have listed on your SOA.

This is true - the OR would usually only advertise in a local paper if the bankrupt wasn't co-operating or if the OR believed that full disclosure hadn't been made, or in cases where there may be members of the public who had an interest - e.g. if you'd paid a deposit for goods and the supplier had gone bankrupt and not supplied you

In most cases there will be no local advert

It is up to the particular OR, so it may be advertised. Best to check.

Hi Gedc

perhaps the easiest response is to contact the local court adn find out current bankruptcy number.

then check the local newspaper for the amount of bankruptcy entries

as already stated it is down to discretion of local OR to publish, in general terms it will not be listed as it costs the OR money to publish.

the paper may elect to publish names of local characters probably high public figures or as stated above someone that has not fully complied with communicating with the OR.

My local court has over 58 people so far this year who have petioned for BR not one has made the paper.

regards Richard
