give the local court a quick ring and they will tell you how long you have to wait, generaly you turn up in the date with the forms and the money, the clerk checks your forms, some see the judge, some dont, the judge usually asks if you have taken advice and if you are sure you want to go ahead, after that you are bankrupt and you will be contacted by the Official receiver, sometimes on the phone at the court on the day sometimes a couple of days later.

Good luck Ski.nn

many people do petition for their own bankruptcy, I needed help as i had more than one issue that needed attention and although from a proffesional background. I was not able to cover/ understand all of the what ifs.

For any one that is planning to go it alone make certain that you spend time planning your bankruptcy and all the what ifs are covered. The small and easy part of the process is completing the forms.

a wee error could cost you a lot in the long run a lot more than the cost of a phone call. I think I have actually saved many hundreds of pounds by using the skills of my expert.

Ski.nn good luck with your local court they are normally very helpful and will help you through the process, (although they cannot give advice) a straight forward petition should be easy to prepare and progress to court. As debt info suggests ring your local court and speak to the clerk and ask about the process

Many posters on the forum will be able to help with generic and general questions.

what court are you petitioning at ?

good luck regards Richard

You can search for your local court at http://www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk/HMCSCourtFinder/

Give them a call and ask them the procedure for declaring BR. Some courts ask you to make an appointment whereas others you just turn up on the day.

When completing the forms make sure you don't sign them as they need to be signed in front of the BR Clerk when you petition.

On the day you will generally turn up at the appropriate time, hand the forms and the £600 to the BR Clerk who will check through them and then ask you to sign them, hang around for an hour or so, possibly see the Judge but this doesn't happen in most courts, be told you are BR and get a BR certificate and then have a quick chat with the OR's assistant to confirm address/contact details.

The whole process is normally over within 2 hours and is much easier than you think.
