We were made BR in Nov 08, and Discharged in Aug 09. And havent had credit since, and tbh dont really want it BUT..
Our bed has just collapsed, after years of being on its last legs. Ive been turned down for 2 credit cards that are supposed to be for people with poor credit history. We are not entitled to any crisis/budget loans from the government despite me being on incapacity benefit and my hubby earns a poor wage.
What else can we do? Is somewhere like Brighthouse, or a provident loan the only answer?
Provident - Loan example: If you borrow £300, you will pay back £10.50 over 52 weeks, which adds up to £546. Typical 272.2% APR = £246 a year interest !!!!!
I would rather sleep on a bed of nails then touch provident. I'm sorry but if you have been bankrupt and decide to use these sharks then it won't be long before u are bankrupt again.
I recently joined a credit union and save 10 a month, I am looking to rebuild my credit and they have offered to help - they do an overdraft type loan which is available for a set period (3/5 years) and covers any advances up to your approved limit over the agreed period eg - you borrow 200 and pay it off in 6 months you can then borrow 200 again when/if u need to (you don't pay anything if you are not borrowing anything). They will asses you fairly on Imcome and outgoings
The bonus is you are also Saving at the same time As a discharged bankrupt the last thing I want to do is take out credit but I need to rebuild my credit for the future and hey - most of us have learnt from past experience.
Is there anywhere that will help me?
