Hi Everyone,

I have just been told by my employer that HMRC have written to them
asking how much I earned between the date of my (and the 5th April.
They didn't actually mention that I am BR,however the date given was
When I went BR. This is obviously embarrasing as I have not my employer
about my BR!

Is this type of question something they normally ask? Given that legislation
is aimed at removing some of the stigma of being BR, it hardly seems
very tactful of HMRC!! Then I suppose tact and HMRC don't really go
together.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts on this.
D.

HMRC can contact your employer at any time to check how much you have earned during a particular period so I wouldn't worry about it. Chances are your employer may have this query for other people in the organisation from time to time as well.

This doesn't only happen when you are BR so there is no reason for your employer to suspect you are BR.

Hi - employers get asked all the time to confirm payments made to employees.

Unless there is a clause in your T&C's of employment to alert your employer of BR, you have nothing to worry about.
