Hello all,

Just an update from my numerous previous posts. I was declared Bankrupt on 27/08/10 and had my OR telephone interview today. I was terrified about what to expect but to my shock the lady I spoke to was completely human, nice, and professional. At the end of the interview she told me that she didn’t think an IPA would be required at this time because I don’t have enough disposable income although she wanted to go through my income and expenditure one more time.(It almost seemed like she was on my side which surprised me)

The only query she raised was in relation to my mortgage protection policy and said that this may not be allowed but she would try her hardest to allow it with the current job market etc. My argument for keeping it running was that if I’m made redundant in 6months I would probably end up giving up the house due to not paying the mortgage which is the reason I started the policy.

I have been allowed to keep my vehicle because it is valued at less than £2500 and I needed it for work.

My property is in negative equity of around 25k and because of this she has allowed me to keep the property and purchase the beneficial interest for £1.00 plus £211 cost if I want to do so (she did recommend that I sleep on this decision and that it can be done at any point during the BR process but ideally within the next 28days so she can inform my creditors)

My recommendations for anyone who is considering BR is to read all the posts on this forum and asks as many questions relating to your circumstances as you can. The forum experts on here are a fountain of knowledge and are the friendliest people. Someone always has the answer to your questions and you always get a quick response which helps. Without this forum I would still be in debt hiding from telephone calls and putting bills in the bin. It is no way of life and I am coming through it now and I wouldn’t recommend to anyone to try and keep it up.

I am at the start of a new journey in my life now being debt free and having just a little money left each month. It makes such a change not being over drawn.

I still have a few jobs to do like checking that my house and car insurance policies are still valid because I am BR and I may come up against problems at work (I work for a Local Authority) but these are problems for another day. For the first time in years I am going to enjoy this weekend not worrying about what the following week may bring (and with the football being on tonight has helped some what)

I have no doubt I will be on here on a regular basis asking questions if the OR comes back with any queries but hopefully she wont!! I will also enjoy reading how other people are getting on

I can’t say this enough but thank you to everyone who has taken

I'm glad everything went well Carl, although I have to say the football isn't giving me a good start to the weekend!

Only when the last tree has died, the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realise that we cannot eat money.

Last IPA payment made on 28th June 2010 - it's over at last!

Definitely! I have to say that I was quite impressed in the end - I hope it carries on against Switzerland on Tuesday!
