hi, sorry several monday morning worries.i am self employed and hae always used my real name for trading, can I still do so? I need to go BR but cant even raise the 700£ to do it at the moment. I am in several contracts for work and I am obilged to inform them if I am BR, they can close the contract? Do I have to tell them, how public will this be, will they read it in the papers? And loads more worries? Thanks for your time.p

If and when you go bankrupt as a sole trader, you have to continue to trade under that name. If you traded under a different name, you would be contravening one of the restrictions placed on you in bankruptcy.

Yes the bankruptcy does get advertised in the London Gazette(a publication that all financial institutions have access to), and in a local paper. As Paul said, there are possible misconduct issues if you take deposits for work, knowing that you may be insolvent( in OR terms - Trading whilst knowing insolvent or TKI).

The other question is, what type of business do you run? is your home your trading address, or is it elsewhere, do you hold stock, and do you employ anyone?but as previously stated get advice from one of the experts on this forum.

A former insolvency examiner with the insolvency service until 23 July 2010.

Reference my last post, bankruptcies no longer get advertised in the local press, just the London Gazette, apologies for any inconvenience.
