A couple of questions: New bank account: We are going to the court to present our paperwork on Friday and have been told that once everything has been gone over we will be declared bankrupt that day. Can we then go to the bank and open a new account the same day? One of my husbands creditors is the co-op, will this stop me opening an account with them? Gas/electricity: Although our electricity/gas supplier is not one of our creditors we do pay by direct debit which will be changed to the new bank account when its opened. As its kind of a credit arrangement (we pay for what we have already consumed) will we now need to go onto a meter? Payments: Really unsure of how they work these out and how long we have to pay them for? Pensions: both work for the NHS and pay 5% of our salary to pensions. Form wants all of these details is saying 5% enough or do they need figures?
Thanks in advance

Hi T bird,
Your husbands debt with the Co-op should not effect you getting an account with them.
You will be able to continue the DD with your energy supplier via the new bank account and this should not effect this situation.
The energy companies only tend to install meters where debtors have fallen into considerable arrears and perhaps had this written off in Bankruptcy.
You disposable income will be calculated from your income against your expenditure any surplus will be classed as disposable income and may go towards contributing to your debts, this is done via an Income Payment Agreement (IPA) which if put in place would last for three years.
Saying 5% will be fine.

Hi,
Regarding the gas and electricity. I was paying by direct debit for what I had already used, therfore I owed arrears so to speak. All the money owed was written off and my new bills started from the day after the BR. I phoned up BT, the gas, water and electricty companies and set up new direct debits with my new bank details. Couldn't have been easier.
