I have recently gone bankrupt. 13/10 I had an overdraft facility of £1000 with bsrclay bank. I was advised by 3 different solicitors not to open a new bank accout until the after ive gone bankrupt & if the bank close the current one. Well the bank froze my accout on th 25/10. The only income i have is my child tax credit & child ben. My child tax credit went into my bank account on 25/10. the bank have accepted the payment but have refused my any funds to live on for the next month. Child tax office said they cant reissue another payment my next one is due end nov. Spoke to the official receiver whom havent been very helpful either. Im pulling my hair out i dont know what to do. Ive got 2 kids to feed & ive already been into a&e this week because of the stress the bank have put me thro.

Hi Julie,
welcome to the forum, but by the looks of things the advice you received hasn't been of benefit to you.

It's all very well me saying this after, but you should have been advised to open a cashminder account with the Co-op, then arrange for your benefits to be paid into it, then go bankrupt, as Barclays will have just used your benefits to decrease the overdraft.

Unfortunately the OR is not in a position to help, if the account was in credit, then they could have authorised the bank to release the funds to you, but being overdrawn there is nothing they can do.

One of the other experts may be able to help further with regards to your unfortunate situation,

Big Al
