| Hi,new to forum and B/R, can you help please. Went B/R on 19/10/10,that afternoon I received a cheque for tax refund of over £400 for period 2008-2009,I am due to speak to the O/R in the next couple of days and people are saying I shouldn't declare it as it is money I should have had back then.I don't know what to do,I'm a worrier and i would hate to do the wrong thing and have it jump up and bite me on the rear later on. Any advice would be very much appreciated. |

When you have the chat with the OR, I would declare the refund, if the OR makes the decision that you may be allowed to keep the repayment then so be it, its yours. But I would not recommend that you keep the payment without declaring it to the OR. It is important that you are completely open and honest with the OR

I agree with Mel, you should declare the refund. I agree it's money you should have had a couple of years ago, but you can also take the view that it's money that should have gone to your creditors back then.

| Hi,thanks for both replies.I have to say finding this website was a huge blessing, you get so many people telling you what to and what not to do you end up doubting your own thoughts ! Melanie, to be honest that was what I wanted to hear, personally will feel much better declaring it to the O/R and if I get to keep it GREAT, if not, well I didn't have it anyway so I haven't lost out, Thanks again, no doubt I'll be back with other Q's since this is just the start of it all. |
