We are going BR on 13th Jan, I am about to fill in the living expediture. At the moment I have a debt management plan, paying £107 a month. The problem I now have is that on paper it seems that we have more than £200 a month spare
We recieve benefits, income support, careres allowance, disability living allowance and child benefit. Will we really have to pay £200 a month for the next 3 years? If so we will actually be (short term)
worse off by going BR then we are now!
Here is my budget, any help would be much appreciated :)

2 adults and 15yr old

Income £1211 monthly

£21 rent (the rest is covered with housing benefit)
£35 water rates
£180 gas and electric (high but husband disabled)
£10 content insurance
£45 phone and internet (I need internet as I am studying with OU)
£13 tv licence
£6 insurance repair protection for washer
£60 sons bus fare to school
£80 clothing
£30 hairdressers
£25 pet food
£100 petrol (husband disabled, only way he is able to get out)
£400 food

TOTAL £1005

Leaves £206 a month

you can also now put down for a family holiday in the uk, between £50-£70 a month.. What about dental, opticians, emergencies and you are also allowed £10 per person in the household.
Hope this helps :)

You should put down the amount you use however from the guidelines you can have up to £504 for food.

You are entitled to £2 per day per person for work/school meals.

Do you need to pay for car tax, insurance, MoT, servicing and repairs?

£45 phone and internet - Does this include mobile phones? Up to £61 is the entitled amount for 2 adults/2 children.

As Sarah mentions £10 per person in the household is allowed for emergencies. You can also put down an amount (up to £80) for a 'domestic UK break' however the OR doesn't have to allow this.

Has your income increased since you started the DMP or are your outgoings less as they should be the same for the BR and DMP?

Thanks for the replies. Is £504 for food for 3 people ok? We don't work and my son gets free school meals. We don't pay anything for repairs etc for car as it is a mobility vehicle. Since the DMP our income has decreased, it has just been reviewed and we are now to pay £107 instead of £259. I am not trying to get out of paying anything, but I can't afford the £107 let alone anymore!
Thanks again :)

Hi Les,
the thing to remember is that as you've said "we", I'm presuming that you are both declaring yourself bankrupt, in which case you will be assessed as seperate individual cases for the purposes of an IPA.

So what you need to do, is list your income seperately, and what each contributes to the expenditure plus if one of you is purely on benefits, then as a result of case law, the OR will not seek to claim an IPA from someone whose sole source of income is benefits.

The other thing,is that even though £21 is paid to top up the HB to the full rent, you should still enter the full rent as HB is a form of income, as if you weren't on HB then you would put the full amount down.

Sorry, for some reason I thought you had 2 children. £400 for food is about right for the guidelines.
