This may sound a strange question but how closely do the courts/OR whoever, look at your accounts
for instance, if I have a deposit of £1000 in my account, will the look to see if it as paid in by a cheque and will they look to see who that cheque was made out by?
the reason I ask isn't intended to hide or defraud or something like that. It's just I was lent money by a family member so we have no formal documentation to prove it was a loan but my bank statement does show an entry where I deposited over £1k but this was her cheque along with some other cash.
Do they look at where they money in your account comes from? |

well i'm hoping its just a misunderstanding and not that no-one wants to answer me :-(

I don't know, but I was made BR least week and have a face to face meeting with the OR this Wednesday. I bought my car with a loan from my mother, and they asked to see evidence that it was genuinely her money. She has gone back to he bank and has sent receipt/confirmation in the post to me for me to take to the OR. I don't know much more yet but would also be interested in any replies. Widge |

Hi all
i was still hoping for a answer to this question so I am hpoing one of the experts will be able to help.
If an amount shows up as a deposit in your bank account i.e. £1000, will the OR ask you to prove where it came from or just take your word for it?
in other words, can they ask your bank who made the cheque out? |

I would think that if you have proof from your mother that the money came from her and what it was for it should be ok.
I'm not 100% though. Hopefully one of the professionals will be around during today.

hi all
i'm still hoping for an expert too
btw my question is nothing to do with money from my mother, that was widge.
my question relates to not only money received from a relative but also if i have deposited an amount in my bank, can th OR see where it has come from?
i have deposited a few chunks over the last 2 years, some from loans from relatives and some cheques from companies. Can the OR ask the bank who the cheque came from? |

Sorry bonechild, got a bit mixed up there!
I've no idea but imagine that they can do this if they think they need to investigate further.
We could do with BigAl coming on to let us know.

Hi bonechild,
If you have had regular cheques paid in by companies over the last two years, then yes, the OR will want to know what they were for.
