I would like to understand how anyone could be in the position to declare bankruptcy and still afford 600 pound for the application? Please tell me that this is not true and what if we do all the paperwork ourselves? Then how much is it? And, I live in Haverhill, Suffolk. Where is the nearest court that I could go to with these papers?
Unfortunately those fees are due to go up on the 1st June to £700! Doesn't matter whether you fill the forms in yourself or pay a firm to do so.
If you are in receipt of certain benefits then you can get a reduction.
Can't help you with the court I'm afraid - one of the experts can probably help with that.
The world is broken, halos fail to glisten We try to make a difference but no one wants to listen Hail the preachers, fake and proud Their doctrines will be cloud Then they'll dissipate like snowflakes in an ocean
Insolvency simply means that you cannot afford your debts not that you dont have any money at all (although for many people that may be true also) so alot of people can afford the fees if they stop paying their debts for a few months.
Also many compnies will charge you to fill in the forms on top of the £700 fees, so if you can it is cheaper to do the forms yourself
I understand where you are coming from. It is slightly ironic that you cannot afford to pay your debts, yet you nave to pay a fee for any debt solution. On the other hand, if you have a large amount of debt which you expect to have written off, it is probably a good investment. Please come back and lett the forum know your debt level as there may be other alternatives.
You live equidistant between Cambridge and Bury St Edmonds so I would telephone Cambridge County Court and ask if they have bankruptcy jurisdiction over Haverhill.
All the best
