Hi, a family friend recently became bankrupt but I have since heard he didn't fully declare the reasons why? i.e. extremely large gambling addiction. I want to help the person but need real facts to drive home what I believe could be almost classed as lying to an official body. Thanks

I'm asking that if they claimed Bankruptcy and not mention a gambling addiction what might happen? Should they or do they have to mention their problem?

They do have to mention if they have lost money gambling yes.

The range of punishment for lying or delibretly witholding information can be from extending the restrictions of bankruptcy for up to 15 years up to an unlimited fine and up to 2 years in prison

Is the OR able to find this out debtinfo?

The world is broken, halos fail to glisten
We try to make a difference but no one wants to listen
Hail the preachers, fake and proud
Their doctrines will be cloud
Then they'll dissipate like snowflakes in an ocean

Possibly yes, the point is that if you have gambled and you tll them you get a small punishment, if you lie on your court forms and in interviews and they find out you get the book thrown at you

Hi Concerned35

I understand your concern for your friend and all that you can do is advise him of the folly of his ways as per the replies which you have received to this question. However too much interfering by you might not be a good idea.

All the best

Hi,
if he's been interviwed( was it face to face or telephone?) and the RTC(report to creditors) has gone out then the OR may not be investigating further, but, the report going out wouldn't mean they weren't especially if the OR became suspicious of the extent of the liabilities and how they were accrued.
