Hello,

I just thought I would let you know how I have been doing with the letting agents and my quest to find a new flat. After spending last saturday trawling the numerous letting agents in my town, I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by their attitudes. Many of them saw no problem with being a discharged bankrupt, although the various rules still apply, such as 6 months deposit or a guarantor. At no point was I made to feel a pariah although there were one or two, who simply said they would not take me on. Their loss I thought. I did say there was no way I had 6 months deposit, but I am lucky enough to have a guarantor. I found a nice flat and we are currently going through the various checks before we get the all clear. Must admit I am still on tenterhooks until they give us the go ahead, but I can't imagine there should be any problems as I have been in full employment for the past 25 years and I am on a fairly decent wage. The guarantor should pass a credit check with no problems, but until they come back and give the go ahead, I suppose you can never tell. I just wanted to give a little hope to those of you who are thinking of moving and have to speak to letting agents. Most of them are very understanding, especially in today's economic climate and you have to remember, at the end of the day, they want to make a sale and your money is as good as anyone else's. I still makes me angry though, that I have no debts and I am quite financially secure, but I still have all these obstacles put in front of me purely because I was bankrupt, whereas someone with a great credit record, could be up to their neck in debt, but they would still get anything without any problems. It's very unfair.

Anyway, I will keep you updated and let you know when I get the thumbs up on my move. Keep your fingers crossed for me won't you?

Good afternoon all,

Good News! I have just had a phone call from the letting agents and she told me we passed all the checks, which is a relief. She also told us we don't now need a guarantor, which took me by complete surprise. Not sure why they have come to that decision as my credit rating is most definately bad, but maybe it is something to do with the fact that my partner and I are in fairly stable long term jobs and both on higher than average salaries, I don't know, but either way, it is a relief that we have now got the go ahead to move in next month and my sister no longer has to be a guarantor. So happy I could do a little jig.lol

Thanks Viki,

Can't wait to move now. We have spent the last 3 years in hell, so hopefully the new place will be an improvement. Onwards and upwards.

Last IPA payment made on 28th June 2010 and I'm now looking forward to getting married in September 2012 - I'm proof that you can go BR and come out the other side.
