I was discharged after being made bankrupt in july 2008 but there are debts still showing in my credit report. I thought my debts would be cleared after being discharged. Do I need to contact the lenders to notify them that I was made bankrupt? Can I apply for a mortgage now, 3 years after being discharged? Many thanks

Hi,

The debts will show for 6 years from the date of default which should be no later than the date of your bankruptcy. If there are default dates later than that then you need to write to the creditors.

The bankruptcy will stay on your file for 6 years from the date of your bankruptcy.

I doubt you will get a mortgage until that time, but if you have a large deposit, then all you can do it try.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

in current market mortgages are virtually illegal !

but yes with the right contacts you can get a mortgage but expect to put down a large deposit or have a partner who has reasonable or good credit rating

Good Luck Richard,

You could try a whole of market broker but you would need a hefty deposit.

I do know of someone who completed an IVA early but with a 50% deposit she was able to get a mortgate
