After a horrendous nights sleep (or lack therof), I'm getting ready to go to court today, finally, to go BR. Full of dread and very mixed emotions. Wish me luck!

Good luck, I'm sure you'll be fine x

Only when the last tree has died, the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realise that we cannot eat money.

Last IPA payment made on 28th June 2010 and I'm now looking forward to getting married in September 2012 - I'm proof that you can go BR and come out the other side.

Well, it's done. Felt too depressed to post on here last night and had another sleepless night. Now off to work where I have to be bubbly and cheerful..will have to act my socks off.
I have to say I feel none of the relief I've seen others talk about, just depression and a huge sense of failure and the feeling that I have a huge B branded onto my forehead..

I'm glad it's all sorted. Don't beat yourself up, you are not a failure, you've done your best and nobody can say otherwise.

Just look forward to a debt free life and start looking to the future.

Satal

brighten up my friend, no one actually wants to go BR but it a decision that occasionally has to be made.

just look at it you have found a way not to make you rich, next time you will do things different and hopefully the result will be the other extreme.

public brandings and walking around with a placard with the words I am BR do not happen, the poor houses have been closed.

This is an executive club you have joined (by appointment of a judge only), you have been given the chance to start again, how quickly you start again and get on with life is up to you.

Good Luck Richard,

Hi Satal,

I know what you mean. After coming back from the court, although I felt some sense of relief the deed was finally done, I hardly came out skipping and jumping for joy. The only big difference was knowing that all my debts were now taken care of and I didn't have to worry about how I was going to keep up the payments from now on or have harrasing phone calls from the banks, etc. Financially you should see a difference, even if it is only a small one, but by far the most important difference is that you are no longer in debt and you can see this as a fresh start with your finances. I declared bankruptcy in March 2009 and was discharged a year later. I was paying an IPA up to this month, which has now been suspended, so I am basically finished in all aspects of the bankruptcy finally. My credit file will be awful for a further 3 years, but after that, I will finally be free from the whole bankrupcty thing. For mem, personally, it was the best thing I could have done, but it did take me a lot of soul searching before I took that leap. You have done the right thing and you need to look forward with a positive attitude. Don't worry that you don't feel elated or want to jump for joy. That is normal and just get on with the rest of your life without having to think of debt. They are all now in the past.

Good luck
