My BR is in the early stages, I havn`t filled in all the forms yet & have not got a court date. I had some rent arrears with Housing Association which I`ve been paying weekly & don`t really want to include it in the BR. A relative has offered to pay it off, will that be OK at this stage?

yes as long as the money is not coming from you it is perfectly acceptable for someone else to pay a debt on your behalf
