Dear Forum

If someone petitions for their own BR, is it possible for them to keep a Basic Bank Account during the BR period, provided they do not owe money to that Bank of course!!!

Yes - this is entirely at the discretion of the bank concerned, and if there is any money in the account at the time of the bankruptcy order it may be taken by the Official Reciever, but you will be made an allowance for ongoing living costs until next pay day.

Would the OR see it as being acceptable to pay off personal debts to friends / family before going BR???

Absolutely not! This would be seen as a deliberate preference and the OR would immediately seek to recover the monies from your friends and family.

Hey dazed and confused. I believe that would be seen as favouring one creditor over another so the OR probably wouldn't be too happy. I'm sure an expert will clarify this. Viki X
