I had a problem with a builder. I paid them, however they did not do the work. The council had been trying to obtain a CPO for the property as it is inhabitable. I got a solicitor to help with this issue, who quoted me fees of £400 which I did not get in writing. The barrister filed papers and the council said it would be taken to high court. The solicitor then quoted me £4000 - £5000 in fees. I advised that solicitor that I could not pay that amount so went to the council legal team and negotiated undertaking. The solicitor had to fax over documentation for undertaking. They had a dispute over the invoice I received from the solicitor of £1800. I had already paid £695 on account. The solicitor then took me to court and requested an order of sale of my property to recover the fees. My defence statement that I wrote was lost. The court has granted the order for sale of my property to the solicitor.
