Generally speaking a bailiff is not allowed to force their way into your property. They can only come in if you let them or if they can gain peacable entry through an open door or window. As such if you are expecting a visit from a bailiff keep all external doors and windows locked. Do not let them in if you open the door to them. They can not force their way past you.
If a bailiff is unable to gain entry to your home through peacable means then generally they have to go away again. They can try 2-3 times but if each time they are unable to gain entry they generally have to give up and return the collection process to the origional creditor.

Just to add that, as James says, doors and windows must be locked, it's not enough that they are just closed. If they are unlocked then a baillif is ,allowed to enter.
