Hi guys,

Please could you tell me if debt to family members is wiped following br?

I borrowed a substantial amount of money from my dad but he is adamant that I still have to pay this back.

If you could advise I would appreciate it,

Thank you

E

yes all eligable debts are include in bankruptcy including those to family members, make sure you tell the OR about the debt and he will get a letter informing hi of the bankruptcy like all other creditors

Thank you for your advice. I was discharged at the end of march 2012 (woooo) but my dad never heard anything from the OR (I told her I owed him a lot).

Dad won't accept the debt got wiped unfortunately. My issue is dad's will (he's very sick at the moment so it's an important subject which must get resolved sooner rather than later).

My brother was given 30k towards his property when he brought it and I would have got the same had I been in a position to buy at any point. Dad is gong to take the 30k I owe him out of the settlement for the will and I do not get the 30k for a property should I buy in the future. So I lose 30k and am denied another 30 which my brother got. I know it sounds petty, but to me, and I'm sure to a lot of you guys too, 30k is a hell of a lot of money and I could never save that much up.

(I'm very money focused as dad was/is an accountant and we never got anything for free So if I see someone getting more than me I et very upset about it.)

I don't know how to handle this one. Does anyone have any ideas?

I think dad should just forget I owe the 30k and I don't get the house money.

Thank you, I know this is off topic!!

I don't thank anyone can give you advice on this as it's very, very personal.

I do hope you get this sorted though.

Hi Essie, I realise that this is really personal to you however being nearer to the end than the beginning as it were, I strongly feel that you are talking about your fathers hard earned money, and as such, what he decides to do with it is his choice.
