hi,my husband and myself have been in bankrupcy for two months, we have not had an interview or had any news from or. is this normal, also i see many questions regarding tax. SO Far my husbands last two salaries have had normal paye deducted, what do people mean when they say they have to pay tax to the or? also our cash account with nationwide is still active can we assume this will continue to stay open?

Hello there,

Did you speak to the OR within a day or so of the bankruptcy order being made?
If so, and if the Official Receiver, decides that your 'case' is straight-forward, you may not have to have an 'interview'.

If you would like to have piece of mind, give the OR's office a ring and explain your position, they will let you know if an appoitment/interview is necessary. It may well be that there has been a breakdown in communication with you (it has been known to happen, though to be honest is extremely rare!)just ring to clarify

With regard to your query concerning your husbands income, the OR will liaise with your local tax office and set up an 'Income Payment Order', so that 'normal' tax will not be deducted from his salary, and arrangements will be made for it to be collected by the OR. (In effect this means he will take home the whole of his salary, but must pay over to the OR the amount which normally would have been deducted for tax etc)this will continue to 'run' for the remainder of the current tax year - until March 2013

With regard to your bank account, there is nothing to stop this account continuing to be used, provided you do not owe Nationwide any money on other products such as a credit card or loan.

Hope this helps you, Melanie
