I have joint debts with my husband. do we both have to pay 700 each and declare at the same time? , If he declares on his own do I then become liable solely for the debts?

Hi Susan,

Yes, if one of you declared bankruptcy, then the other is liable solely for the joint debts.

If you both want to declare bankruptcy then you need to file seperately and it will cost £700 each.

Have you taken advice to see if bankruptcy is your best option? I suggest you speak to an expert on here or visit the CAB for advice if you haven't.

The only exception would be if you had been running a partnership business together
