My flat was repossessed and I owe around £70.000 maybe more, and now debt collectors have caught up with me at my partner's flat.
I was out of work until this April but now as a self-employed I rarely work.
Since April 2012 i have earned just over £1000, I have just over £1000 in savings.
My partner is paying the bills and provides for me so she would not be able to help with paying my debt.
Apart from my old laptop and my clothes I own nothing.
I don't even think that I can afford to go bankrupt, what are my options?
I would very much appreciate advice on my case.

Hi Peter,
I suggest you speak to an expert to chat this through.
Bankruptcy could be the best option as you have no assets and no means of repaying the debt.
Could you use your savings for the fee?

Hi Peter and welcome,
I seriously suggest that you make an appointment to see the CAB as soon as possible.
They may be able to help in the short term, and give you guidance if BR is the best course for you.

There are certain utility companies that can help out with your fees. CAB can advise on that or you could give one of the experts who post on here a ring for some free advice.

You may also find you qualify for a reduced fee with filing for BR.

| i also am going bankrupt soon,i have no assets and no money,and am self-employed,getting together the money for bankruptcy can be hard,its about £700 unless you can get a reduced fee,im also paying a company to do the paperwork for me ,as it could be a daunting experience,i have found a company called vincent bond and a very nice lady called viki warbrooke,who has also responded to your post,it is nice to have someone whos qualified in this area who you can turn to ,when that question pops into your head,and to make sure the application is filled in correctly,its a stressful time for you i should think as is myself hope my post helps regards terry |

I managed to do all the paperwork myself.
Its not as daunting as it originally looks. I would be willing to help if needed.

Surely doing the paperwork for yourself will free up some money for the bankruptcy fee itself?

Some people prefer a company to do it for them and VB are one of the cheaper ones.
If they are filling it in themselves then they are free to ask questions on here if they get stuck as Angela did last week.

It's each to their own when it comes to help in completing the forms. I did my own with help from the experts on the sister IVA forum (this forum wasn't as advanced as it is now) but I know some people do prefer to have help.
For those that do feel they need help it's important to go with a reputable company (all the professional experts on here are reputable) as there are some companies out there who have given BR assist firms a bad name.
