Hi justme13, and welcome.
Apologies for it taking a while for a reply.
If you google guide to trustee in bankruptcy fees, you will see in that guide that a bankrupt can challenge fees and expenses along with creditors.
So, I guess the only way to do that, would be to ask for a breakdown, or a copy of their report to creditors. ----- Anyone else anything to add? This has gone unanswered for a while.

I don't see why you wouldn't be able to get hold of this. Have you tried asking your trustee?

Only when the last tree has died, the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realise that we cannot eat money.
Last IPA payment made on 28th June 2010 and I'm now looking forward to getting married in September 2012 - I'm proof that you can go BR and come out the other side. |

Do you have a specific reason for wanting a breakdown (of costs) ?

I just wanted to say that I didn't even think I couldn't get a breakdown and so contacted the trustee about a year ago to find out the costs, etc. I had no problem in obtaining them and all debts were included. It definitely helped in trying to work out what monies we might be left with if and when the house was sold.
I would add that I considered the trustee's costs to be somewhat extortionate, given that, like solicitors (sorry, but I have also worked in the legal profession so know what they do and don't do) they don't seem to do a great deal until it needs doing - if you know what I mean!
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the feedback bearsndogs
There's a few different ways their costs are derived and agreed with creditors.

The reason I ask is I have asked my own solicitors and they just ignore my request and say just leave it and as for the trustee who is a solicitor for the largest creditor he gets very angry and tells me to let it go but there are many unanswered questions, for example while the trustee had his name on the deeds of my home I was not allowed to insure my home as they told me at this time you have no home but they insured it for 6000 pounds. I needed the name of the insurers as I had a major water leak in my hall but my solicitors could not get the name from the trustee so I had to pay for the repair myself. Also the cost of the insurance was 30 times more than i used to pay.their charges were three times more than i owed.
That is why i would like to see what the costs were for. |

Just to clarify advent,
Are you saying that your trustee for your bankruptcy, is also a solicitor for your largest creditor?

At the beginning of my bankruptcy a large firm of solicitors were my trustees they gave it to a person in the firm to be the named trustee he left the firm then another person became the named trustee but a solicitor from my largest creditors took over, the named trustee did absolutely nothing. quote: Originally posted by advent

Maybe Debtinfo can shed some light here?
It sounds like there's a conflict of interest if I've read your post correctly.

I've just seen the bit about not being able to insure the property. Surely, that can't be right? When I was made BR and the Trustee's name put on title deeds, I was informed that it was still my responsibility to keep the property insured and also continue paying the mortgage, which my husband pays. The property is insured and, in fact, I changed my insurer (twice) due to the increase in premiums, and we've never had any problems.
