Let us know what you decide - we are always here for you.

Ascend may you find no resistance
Know that you made such a difference
All you leave behind will live to the end
The cycle of suffering goes on
But memories of you stay strong
Someday I too will fly and find you again

Niobe,
CAB is free no matter how many times you visit, and no matter how much they help filling your forms out.

CAB are also often seen by the general public as easy approachable and a charity.

I never said they weren't free - some of them just don't have the specialist debt knowledge that an expert from a debt company can give.

They cannot always answer questions about filling in questions for the BR petition.

At least posters on here can ask and somebody will help them.

Depends which area you live in and whether there is a CAB close to you.

Ascend may you find no resistance

But memories of you stay strong
Someday I too will fly and find you again

Someone wanting to go bankrupt does not need to visit the CAB for advice if they don't want to.

They can take advice from a debt advisor. It makes no difference when you go to court as long as they have taken advice.

I'm just trying to give a balanced view!

I've no idea how much an I dependant company charge to help you go bankrupt and fill your forms out for you (as I did my own).

Maybe one of the commercial experts on here might like to divulge average costs to add to the balanced view?

Also, I'm sure a judge would laugh if he knew that you'd based your advice just on a web forum!

I'm not sure anyone said just to post on a forum, both myself and Niobe mentioned speaking to a debt advisor. That can be from any insolvency company.

I speak to lots of people who just want advice, and that's what I give them, for free. I also go through all their options and most times, I never speak to them again. I make sure everyone I speak to knows that they can do the bankruptcy themselves and that they don't need to pay a company to do it. If they want to know about our assist service, then I tell them and email them some details, then if they want to come back they can do.

I can't speak for other companies, but VB charges £350 for a single bankruptcy and £600 for a joint. This doesn't include court fees. I guide them through step by step beforehand, complete the court papers, book them into court and am here forever afterwards for any queries or help. I'm also here 24/7 if a client just want to talk or is worried.

Some people choose assistance, some people like to do it themselves, that can be true for a lot of things in life. (I'd get a cleaner in to clean my house if I could afford it!)

people can't afford it. That's why they're going bankrupt, surely?

If you don't want me to give a valid balanced view, then fine, but please, the pair of you, stop berrating me!

"Maybe one of the commercial experts on here might like to divulge average costs to add to the balanced view?"

I was just answering your post!

I think this debate has been done over and over on this forum, and it really does come down to choice.

If someone wants to pay for assistance, then they can do, and if they don't, then they can do it themselves. There is nothing wrong with either of those choices.

year 2029, I'm glad that you did it all yourself, but you must understand that some people don't feel as though they can, or they don't want to. Not all CABs offer free form filling, and if someone wants to pay for assistance, then that's up to them, and there is nothing wrong with their choice.

Viki, I was answering your statement reference cleaning, and being able to afford it!
That's why I said most people can't afford it as they're going bankrupt!

It was Niobe that said get advice from the forum. I merely said that a judge would laugh if that was your only advice.

lets just once again say this topic has run its course, and end the thread.

When I went BR after my IVA failed I told the judge that I'd taken advice from my former IP. He wanted to know if I'd had independent advice so I was honest and told him I'd had advice from another IP who was in no way connected to my IVA on IVA.co.uk. He had no problem with this and granted my BR.

Only when the last tree has died, the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realise that we cannot eat money.

Last IPA payment made on 28th June 2010 and I'm now looking forward to getting married in September 2012 - I'm proof that you can go BR and come out the other side.

As I said the advice was from an IP on a forum.

I meant get advice from an expert from the forum, that will be accepted by a court.

My comment about advice from a forum was to seek support and advice before making any decisions. There are a lot of independent companies out there who can advise free of charge.
