re social network sites:
I know that the OR can look at your facebook and presumably twitter, but can/does it also look at things like instagram or other photo sharing sites? Also, if I have my privacy settings set to only friends or private, van it still see everything I post?
I'm not hiding anything, but just windered how much privacy I have..or not.

on a day to day level you have privacy to anything that you dont post publicly, Legally the OR may access any information that may be relevent to your bankruptcy proceedings whether that information be held by you or anyone else (obvious secret files excluded)

It should also be remembered, that its not uncommon for third parties to report to an OR on things that have occurred to a bankrupt.

I.e. hiding affairs etc

Thanks for the replies. As I said, I'm not hiding anything...just curious to know what they look at and how much access they have..presumably total access.

You should be able to keep private anything you don't want others to see.

Just be wary on things like Facebook as to who you request as a friend. I've found this out to my cost!!

Just be careful what you post on there.

Ascend may you find no resistance
Know that you made such a difference
All you leave behind will live to the end
The cycle of suffering goes on
But memories of you stay strong
Someday I too will fly and find you again

Meant to say - be careful who you accept as a friend as well!!

Well I was completely unaware the OR could have access to your facebook page. Although I have nothing to hide, I do think that is an infringement of your privacy. Like there aren't enough downsides involved in bankruptcy as it is without this one too.

I wouldn't have thought they'd bother in day to day dealings.

The amount of superfluous stuff on there would seem a waste of their time.

I also don't think they would bother with a normal facebook page. I certainly would not be wanting to trawl through everyones pages if I was an OR!!

I agree - why would the OR/Trustee be interested in looking at FB pages. And, as you say, Xmas Baby, bankruptcy is stressful enough anyway. I certainly haven't put anything about it on my account - in fact, most of the people I know personally don't have any idea about it, as I feel too embarrassed and ashamed to say anything. As it is, some of the few people that do know seem to have adopted a different attitude towards me, so I'd probably end up with no FB account anyway!

I can't see them being interested in someone's FB page, but if the OR has any suspicions about a person's honesty then I can see exactly why they would be interested in what they put on FB!

The moral is if you don't want anyone to know about something then don't post it on FB, Twitter or any other social network site.

Thanks for your answers. I'm sure they have better things to do than read every post, but I was under the impression they look for things that show you are cheating..like a pic of a shiny new car or whatever (chance would be a fine thing!), so maybe are more likely to look at your pics than anything.

I can't see them looking at everything unless they are suspicious of something.

They'd be welcome to look at my pictures - they wouldn't like what they saw though - I'm not a pretty sight!!

They could have a look at mine as well - most of them are of my cat and I'm sure they'd agree he's very photogenic!

Tracey, most of mine are of me, very photogenic too ;-) ha ha

Satal, as I said before, you've more chance (if you won a reasonable amount on the lotto etc, and bought that shiny car) of a third party informing the OR.
