although I have had an account with the Co-op since I declared myself bankrupt back in 2009 I think they send out mixed signals with regards bankruptcy. On one hand they seem quite ready to give bankrupts a basic bank account, while on the other they deny these same customers to have access to a savings account. Very strange set up. I suppose the way around it would be to request another basic cashminder account, although maybe they would question why you would want 2 accounts? Does anyone know if they would offer savings accounts to customers who have been discharged from bankruptcy though? If so, I may give ask for a savings account.

I was originally declined for a savings account after I was discharged but I appealed and they opened one.

Last IPA payment made on 28th June 2010 and I'm now looking forward to getting married in September 2012 - I'm proof that you can go BR and come out the other side. |

I've managed to keep about 5 accounts open. Non were closed, including 1 savings account linked to a current account, and 2 building society accounts.

The same happened with me. I was refused a coop savings account in 2010. I opened a savings account with santanter. A year later I opened a proper current account with Santander, phone, holiday insurance, break down cover, etc It's just a waiting game. Also got a Vanquis credit card. Started at 200 pounds, now have 1k limit. I have 0 balance I hasten to add. My goal is to repair my credit history peice by peice. Good luck!
