Hello, I am currently a PhD student with an income of £1200/month in London. However I have a large amount of debt, over £25,000 and have written to the creditors who at present are taking just £1/month from my account. I now have been issued with a £1600 tax bill and cannot afford to pay it. I was wondering if bankruptcy would be the best option, supposing I remain a PhD student for the next 3 years.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

BR is certainly something you could think of and it would wipe out your tax debt.

Can I ask why you have this tax deficit as you don't earn an awful lot and tax should have been deducted at source if you have a job?
