Can someone apply for bankruptcy in a different town to the one they live in so that is doesn't appear in the local paper?

hi mel

no you have to petition in the area that is the centre of main interest unless living overseas

it is very rare for it to go in the local press. yes london gazette but have you ever seen that on a newspaperstand

my local court only had two entries in the paper from over 400 BR petitions

Good Luck Richard,

It will always be in the London Gazette but unlikely to be in the local press but it is down the individual OR.

Hi there,

Does the entry stay in the London Gazette forever? I petitioned for BK in March 2009 and was discharged a year later, but if I do a search for the London Gazette, I can still find the entry for my bankruptcy. Will it ever go away?

I think it stays there forever, but for someone else to search you, they would need the date of your entry, so unlikely anyone with see it.

I think you're right Viki. Not many people know about the Gazette. It was a,couple of years of posting on both forums before I heard about it.

Oh well, at least it will give any future ancestors trying to track me down something to talk about. I just found out my great great great uncle ended up in the workhouse back in the 1850's. History repeating itself.lol
