My friend wants to go bankrupt. He is unemployed and has JSA benefit. We have worked out he needs to pay Court fee £175 and the £525 deposit to the court when he takes his paper work in. But can he get a fee remission because he is not working - does this include the £525? What will he need to pay to petition?

I believe that he won't have to pay the court fees but he will have to pay the £525.

He will get the court fee discounted of £175 but will pay the £525 OR deposit.

The court will send the fees remission form to complete prior to bankruptcy

As Niobe and Kelly have posted, he will pay £525. He will need to complete a form prior to going to court, he can download it from the HM courts website or ask the court to send it.

He will also need to take proof of the income based job seekers allowance and it will need to be dated within 30 days of the court date, and he may need to provide other evidence. There is a list on the forms, so make sure he gets the forms in plenty of time before court.

How much are his debts? Has he taken advice?
