Well, officially as I type this it's just gone 12 and I look to see my "time is served" as Richard calls it. I am now discharged with no Payment plan.

Time to get my life back and more importantly get away from the rubbish account the Co-op used to give (it takes 5 days for the online banking to update unless you pay in)

Today's going to be busy!

But thanks for all the support I have been given under pcoventry which is my old username. Been a roller coaster and I have been snappy for which I apologise. However for me it's time to move on.

For all of you considering starting the journey, just starting or already doing it - there is a light at the end of the tunnel.. And this is what it looks like!

Status Discharged On 02 May 2013

Peace..

Pete

You are totally free now - no IPA can be put in place if it hasn't been already and if you get any windfalls they are yours to keep.

Congratulations.

Regarding changing your bank account you may find it hard to get another account with a high street bank until the BR drops off your file in 5 years time as many banks ask if you have been BR in the last 6 years.

The more I have to do with humans the more I think that the world would be a better place if it was run by animals.

Last IPA payment made on 28th June 2010 and I'm now looking forward to getting married in September 2012 - I'm proof that you can go BR and come out the other side.

I've just found this out from the Co-Op. I am however hoping Barclays will help me. I had a current account with them and it was shrunk down so it had no online banking or phone banking whilst I was BR. I had to close it as I was being charged for services I hadn't authorised. (well it was the banks decision to do this but after they asked for my permission)

That was a month or so ago.

I have been to see Barclays and they say that it's possible they can help me. This is based on my history with them for BR (8 years perfect) my discharge and also because They have never been a creditor and I have never been in debt with them. Before BR my credit score was 969 believe it or not. It's now 211 :/ (infact I had opened a top account with Natwest but it was closed as they were linked with RBS and I never knew this - and i owed RBS)

Anyway I will see what they say. If they say no then there are option options available. Okay so there is a monthly fee for things like cashcardplus but it's guaranteed and their credit builder seems like a good and free system to get things back up and running.

I am leaving Co-op open because they report every month so I have just under a year of green "ok"'s from them and this will continue. I wish I had not closed the Barclays one down now but to be fair I was being charged £13 a month in failed transaction fees which is, I think, Why they closed it so they didn't have to refund me

The co-op's attitude really is rubbish. At least Barclays are willing to investigate what they can do for me. I'd imagine worst case is another account with them with those 2 said facilities removed. Atleast their system updates instantly! Co-op on their cashminder seems to build up and update maybe once a week.

Yesterday was the best day of my life so far and I almost bought a lottery ticket but then I realised if I had won then based on the fact I bought it the day before BR I might have had to answer to the OR. But now I have one for Friday - onwards and upwards!

The Co-op should be fine with you now that you are discharged.

Thing is they are not. They have said they won't do anything to my account and "it will take a few years"

This account updates within 2 hours if you put money in but it's just showing transactions now made on the 26th April. it's way way behind

Surprised at that as they only seem to have problems with undischarged bankrupts - perhaps you need to go and see them with a copy of your discharge.

What are you asking the Co op to do with your account? They won't let you have a full account until the BR has dropped off your credit file.

Hi pete

welcome to a debt free future

Co-op are trying to reduce the overall availability of the cash minder account.

They are very nervous about giving full accounts with overdrafts (no suprise really) cheque book accounts are still supposed to being withdrawn.

I approached coop for a seperate savings account which they gave to me. this has online banking but no debit card. I have also opened accounts with Nationwide and Britannia. These are strictly savings and i am pleased that i can only access them during working hours. rather wierd these two accounts I could only open if my son or Foster children opened accounts.

Now for the sting i cannot explain. I was the lead in our business when it went pop. I had the bulk of the debts and probably more of a risk taker, perhaps an easy spender. I dont and cant go overdrawn but I allocate most of the money each month.

However my wife who i dragged into BR and by her very nature is a financial "hoarder" keeps getting turned down for bank accounts. Her single bank account is looking far healthier than anything I have.

so no logic to the banks decisions.

Good Luck Richard,

Hi Richard,

thanks!

Well bit of an update for you all. I went to Barclays on appointment and they couldn't find any details of my old account in the system at all. So they went to open a new account and do a credit check - which I passed! So I now have a current account with contactless card.

I refused overdraft and they don't do cheque books anymore but I did also set up an ISA for now.

So I will only use the co-op account for what it's currently got on it save the hassle of changing and c***ing up payments (and also because it's marking a nice green OK every month on my credit file) but apart from that they won't be used and it'll all go into barclays.

All letters fired off via recorded delivery (6 of them)

I did manage to get hold of someone at welcome finance by e-mail but she wouldn't do anything until i gave her my up to date address etc. I refused and told her I didn't trust them and that they were greasy weazels lol

Anyway will give it 2 months and see where if it's updated or not.
