Hello,

I have always wanted to join the police force, not as a Police Officer as such, but just working for the Police in an Admin job. I am in recruitment at the moment, and would like to do a recruitment job in the police. However, I was made bankrupt on the 2nd November 2007, and so am not going to be discharged until the 2nd Nov 2008. On some website I have found that even when you are discharged you have to wait 3 years to apply for the police - is this also included doing Admin/Recruitment jobs, or is this just for being an acutal Police Officer?

I will get a Certificate of Satisfaction when I am discharged, and send that along with my application....but do I really ahve to wait another 3 years in order to just apply?

Please help me...

Thanks

Hi 369,

There is no legal reason why you should be excluded after you've been discharged. It is ultimately the employer's decision to set criteria and I am aware the police look at BR with a dim view. I would suggest getting back in contact with their HR to find out.

Hi 369

I currently work for the police in and admin capacity - I went bankrupt last week and advised my employer that I was doing so. They have not had a problem with my decision - I think it may just be police officers that they don't want bankrupt.

Thank you Victoria.

Were you actually bankrupt when you joined though? On the application forms it says they wont accept anyone with any undischarged debt. But then other websites say that you have to have been clear for 3 years before they will even touch you.

I want an admin role, not a police officer. Is there anyone where you work who i could ask? Also I would be hoping to join The Met, so not sure if that would make a difference as well.
