I was declared bankrupt in November 2013, most of the debt was due to my business failing. I walked out on a 10 year lease which still currently had 5 years to run. The lease was included in the bankruptcy and the future debt of the rent. However, I am now being billed by land and property services for the rates of the retail unit as the it was a 10 year lease and they say only the rates until I was made bankrupt are covered. Surely this isn't correct as I will be going bankrupt every year until the lease ends if thus is the case! Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Susiet,

If you vacated the property, stopped the business and included everything in your bankruptcy then it will be covered.

Speak to your official receiver and forward any letters you are getting.
