Hi again all,

Just wondering how you all went about renting before going BR? We've looked at houses let by agents, but of course they will do a credit check and we wouldn't be in this mess if our credit file was in good shape! We don't have CCJ's or any mortgage arrears (yet!) so do we have any chance of being approved to rent a house or is there no point trying?

Hi Ian,

Although the properties are credit checked the decision is ultimately up to the landlord.

My advice is to be honest with the letting agent then they can discuss your situation with potential landlords.

Hi Ian
My son has an IVA which is about to fail, and is on the verge of bankruptcy. He and his partner recently went after a house to rent and were turned down on the credit check (what a racket that is at eighty pounds per person!) He felt like he was being treated as a criminal, especially as they have rented for the last two years with a perfect record.
However, when they went to another agent,their attitude was totally different. They told them that as long as they were straight up front about the situation they would check with the landlord and the referencing agency before the money was paid to see if there would be a problem. They did this first and both said OK, the only thing they had to have was a guarantor.

Hi brett i posted the other day can you please clarify i want to submit br forms but i need to be a director for creditors meet on the 20th what happens if i go br now i need to sort company out or will i still be able to be chairman of the creditors meet in br
