i am starting a degree in september and need to apply for a student loan to cover fees ect, would going bankrupt hinder my chances of getting a student loan and student bank account?

Hi gem & welcome to the forum
you would need to check with whichever body you would normally apply to for such a loan. The conditions of BR are such that you must inform them, and all other lenders for that matter, that you are a BR if the loan application is for more than £500.
Student Loans are exempt from BR so maybe the lender would take the view that the money is "safe" if you should go through BR again in the future.
