Hi, I am booked into court on he 22nd of august. I have been told my my insovelncy practioner to open a new bank account (basic -cash card only)before filing for bankruptcy, and to have all direct debits and my wages paid into this account. I have done this and been old that thi snew account wouldn't be shut on bankruptcy. However I spoke with a freind who has been bankrupt a few years ago that on bankruptcy all accounts are shut, and I should have opended new accoutn after bamkruptcy, even if there is no money in them. I get paid on the 23rd of august, will I lose access to this money, will my new account (with no overdraft or anything, but standing orders and direct debits (for household stuff) be blocked to. I was told it wouldn't but now I am getting worried help! Have i been advied wrongly? or will the courts let me keep this new account. what do you suggest?

Thanks

Hi

It all depends on who you bank with, for instance Barclays won't close your account if its a basic cash card account, but others might. I always get my clients into new accounts prior to Bankruptcy but other experts on here advise post Bankruptcy.

Who is your account with?

HI

Just to confirm that its the Banks decision to close a bank account and not the OR's.
