How long does it take from your OR interview to get a Nil tax code? Reason for asking is that I have my OR interview on the 18th September and obviously due to get an extra £60 in my wages this month, hoping the Nil tax code isn't in force by then!

Hi Maizie

We have only just received the notification from the ORs office, it has yet to be started.
So far taken 4 weeks to get this.
Then we have to sign, return and it has to be actioned, i would say 2 or more months.

Hi Maizie,

It's all down to the OR's discretion and workload I'm afraid.

I went BR beginning June and payed monthly. No 'NT' code yet.

I find that the short answers on this website with facts helped me the most - so when helping others to get there individual timescales in their heads I'll try to include facts - but what happens to me may not apply to you!

I agree winchester every case is different so the answers we give are just a rough guide.

Obviously no 2 cases are the same and we cant assume they are.

Take care

I went BR on 7th Aug, received NT (IPA) letter on 21st Aug. Sent the form back straight away.

I'm paid 4-weekly, and my NT wasn't set on 5th Sep paypacket. Just hope it's not set by 3rd Oct, so I can get the £60 too!

Hi Zamfir
Did your letter state an amount on it as our one did and we are just about to sign and send back once we find out if they can drop the amount as the tax they are asking for maya be too high from next months wages.

Hi Jo, yeah it stated £94 (average of my tax per month). Although the OR took my word for it (as he didn't require pay slips, bank statements etc).

A friend of mine that went BR had a set amount (like mine), but managed to knock the OR down a bit, because her NI payments increased when she went on NT.

I'm not going to go down that route, and upset the applecart as it were.

Plus the £60 extra rebate we're meant to get this month will (in effect) cancel it out ;)

Sorry I think I worded that wrongly Jo, I meant the £60 rebate I'll get will (in effect) make up for any loose change I'm out of pocket by a £94 NT IPA.

Just think, I could have a night in a Premier Inn with that :P
