Dear Forum
Is there a set amount for living allowances once BR?
For example is there a set amount you are allowed each month for food, fuel, car costs etc.? |

Sorry I don't think I asked my original question very well...as I understand it once you go BR, the OR draws up a set of allowances in an I & E for certain essentials such as food, bills, TV, car, fuel etc. you are allowed each month after an IPA / IPO...is there a set amount for these or does it vary from person to person? |

Well it is very admirable of you to give so much time to it!
Thanks for the link to your blog. I checked some of it out - it makes interesting reading, especially the I and E section. They seem quite reasonable on some expenditures, such as food, but then quite mean on other expenditures, such as travel allowances.
I have to use my own car for work and so use quite a lot of fuel, but I do get a mileage rate back from them, eventually! |

Hi D&C
My OR upped some of the amounts like gas and electric and also clothing, its only a rough guide.
I do enjoy helping on here, it give me a sense of being able to help others and i can see the finished product, if you know what i mean.
Good luck and keep posting.

I live with parents and my I&E showed an Expenditure of £700 per month. The OR said that's "well within limits" for someone in my position, and we didn't even go into detail.
I know everybody is different, but I was expecting to be beaten down and into an IPA. |

Hi Zamfir
Did you have to produce evidence of all your expenditure e.g. bills etc.? |

Hi D & C,
No, I only had to sign the form which would allow the OR to put me a NT code.
Didn't have to send wage slips, bank statements, loan agreements etc either. |

Oh right - it sounds like they were good to you!
Is this quite common do you know for most people or were they just feeling generous with you?! |

I've no idea to be fair, but I think that because mine was all personal debt and not taken out within the last 12 months, it may have been less work for the OR? |

Plus, I had no assets (of value) - especially property. The interview was over in 20 minutes. |

Hi Zamfir and thanks for your replies again!
On the subject of assets, my case should be pretty straightforward also. All have is:
Car (£1,000 - £1,500) - needed for work Snowboard (£500 - £700 max) - needed for work Laptop - £400 Digital SLR Camera - £400 Video Camera - £200
Would the OR be likely to want to reclaim any of these do you reckon? |

If your car is needed for work, I don't think the OR will touch that... not sure about the snowboard, but I'm guessing the same.
The OR let me keep my TV, DVD, VCR, SatNav, Digital Camer, PC & Mobile phone. |
