I'm struggling financially and was going to go down the IVA/Trust Deed route. I stopped paying credit cards/bank loan etc into my bank account, and my bank has frozen the account. I then lost my job so can not go down the Trust Deed route at the moment and have been forced to consider bankruptcy.
The problem is that I live with parents who don't want me to go bankrupt in their house, so I now have to try and move into my own place. I have about enough money for a months rent, but would be struggling to afford the bankruptcy court fees. Would it be possible to pay the court fees at a later stage, once I get a job and can afford to? Also, I heard that it might be necessary to make monthly payments during the period of bankruptcy if you can afford to. Obviously I can't at the moment, but am looking for a job....if I register for bankruptcy now and then get a job a month or two down the line, might I have to make monthly payments when I do get a job?

Hi there and welcome

I will try and help where i can. As far as i am aware and my brother in law did this BR does not effect your parents house, unless your on the mortgage. So if that is what is worrying them then it should not effect them at all. They could disassociate themselves from you with the credit agencies if they wanted, that would help.

As for finding the monies if you can convince your parents that it is you only that would be effected then you could use the money that you would have spend paying them for a month or 2 to save for the fees.

I have the credit ref agencies addresses in blog if you want them.

Hope i helped a bit.

Take care

Just to add that I went BR 8-9 weeks ago (living with parents). My mother successfully got a mobile phone contract yesterday, so I don't think your parents should be too concerned about the impact on them obtaining future credit whilst living with a BR.

Only thing you may want to check is Home/Content Insurance. Some companies ask if you (the proposer) is/has been declared BR, and some (like my parents) ask if anybody in the house is/has been declared BR.
